The Story - This piece is the second in my Confluence series. It’s about that tug-of-war we all feel: the busy, "dancing" mental energy of our digital lives versus the quiet, grounded rest we find in nature. It’s inspired by the hazy, still feeling of a summer holiday.
The Materials - I’ve brought two textures together to create this balance. The "Mind" is captured through a macro-photograph of tree bark, printed onto matte architectural aluminium. The finish gives the metal a velvety, atmospheric depth that feels soft and silent.
I’ve interlocked that smooth surface with a hand-sculpted section of thick, heavy-bodied oil paint. I used warm earth tones and pops of blue to give the piece a sense of physical weight and presence. I love how the two sides meet—the soft, velvety aluminium sitting right against the raw, sculpted texture of the oil paint.
